Wineries of Montgomery County

wine bottleMontgomery County, Texas, can lay claim to several successful wineries in the area. Many of them are on the Texas Bluebonnet Wine Trail. Many have also won national awards for their wines.

Texas wines have a certain flair and air about them. Not just from the grapes that make the wine, but the way Texas wine is promoted and celebrated throughout the state.

Before getting to the wineries, I must mention  my personal favorite – Rebecca Creek Distillery.  Rebecca Creek Whiskey was ranked Top Three American Whiskeys in the 2015 Ultimate Spirits Challenge! Rebecca Creek was the first distillery built in south Texas and remains one of North America’s largest craft distilleries.

So now on to the wineries! In no particular order, here is a brief intro to the Wineries of Montgomery County.

Bernhardt Winery
In the heart of southeast Texas you’ll find Plantersville, Texas. It is home to the Bernhardt Winery.  “We are a small mom and pop boutique winery producing classic varietals and unique blends. We can produce approximately 6,000 gallons of wine each year.”

A summer favorite, Bernhardt Winery hosts the Summer Lawn Concert Series. This Sunday, May 17th, The Fabulous “Fab 5” will be entertaining the guests of the winery on the lawn.

With quite a unique approach, this winery specializes in custom made wines. They can even help you design and bottle your own custom label and make it to suite your palate. They also provide leadership team building retreats, corporate retreats, wedding rehearsals, a private celebration, or just a place to relax and have fun.

Each year the member wineries produce five big events a year. The member wineries  each offer unique wine experiences including wine tastings, grape crushing and stomp, mystery dinners, music concerts, wine paired dinners, vineyard tours, a variety of wine-related gifts and much, much more.
The  seven member wineries include, Bernhardt Winery, Plantersville, Texas,Cork This! Winery, Montgomery, Texas, Messina Hof Winery, Bryan, Texas, Peach Creek Vineyards , College Station, Texas, Pleasant Hill Winery, Brenham, Texas,Saddlehorn Winery, Burton, Texas and Windy Winery, Brenham, Texas.
Their next big event is the Harvest Wine Trail. On the first two weekends in July participants will receive one summer scrumptious food pairing with two wine pairings at each winery they visit. It’s a great opportunity to take a break from the heat, learn more about Texas wine, visit with the wine makers and winery owners and most importantly have some summer fun!  Ticket holders have four days to visit the wineries on two designated weekends in July.
September 19, 2015 – Sixteen wineries from across the state of Texas will converge on Montgomery. From 10 am till 9 pm the wineries, craft beer breweries, and others will be offering tasting by the glass, bottle, or case. Of course, no one expects to actually drink the whole case but I’m sure they’ll be available!
