Guide To Parks Around Lake Conroe

Whether you are a new comer or an old timer, knowing the best places to take your family or simply go to relax could be a key component to making your leisure time more “leisurely”. The parks around Lake Conroe provide recreation and relaxation opportunities of every sort. Fishing, playgrounds, swimming, hiking, picnicking, youth sports associations, and tennis are just a few of the activities offered in the area parks. Huntsville State Park – The state park just south of Huntsville on I45 attracts people of all ages and interests to its front gate. Hiking trails are measured in miles, kayaking, canoeing, and paddle boats dot the lake with park goers, and bird watchers flock to the park to get a glimpse of the endangered Red Cockaded woodpecker. Trail rides on horseback are also offered – and you don’t even need to bring your horse!

West Montgomery County Park – “West Montgomery County Park, located at 16716 FM 149, Montgomery, Texas, 77356, is a 50 acre park with five lighted baseball fields, four lighted softball fields, two football fields, restrooms, two concession stands and picnic areas.”

Located just north of Montgomery on Hwy 149, West Montgomery County Park’s programs are run by Montgomery Youth Football Association, Texas Youth Soccer Association, Montgomery Youth Sports Association and Montgomery Girls Softball Association.

This 24 acre park is Conroe’s most well known park. It began as the City & VFW Park and has grown into a popular destination that includes the Heritage Museum of Montgomery County, ADA compliant playgrounds, pavilions, picnic areas, the C.K. Ray Recreation Center and the Conroe Aquatic Center. In 2001, six new tennis courts were built to make room for a major expansion of the Aquatics Center that features two instructional pools and a splash/spray pool.

Facilities include pavilion, gazebo, restrooms, basketball court, tennis courts, playgrounds, jogging trail, picnic areas, and access to swimming facilities.

Lake Conroe Park – Lake Conroe Park is located at 14868 HWY 105 West, Montgomery,TX. It features 1 ball field, playgrounds, fishing piers, volleyball courts, picnic areas, BBQ pits, covered pavilions, and swimming areas.

This park can often get crowded on the weekends, making weekday excursions to Lake Conroe Park a quieter choice.

McDade Park – 10310 FM 2854 Conroe,TX. Click for map.  McDade Park was introduced in 1998 and started with only 19 acres. In 1990 a basketball court, restrooms, and pavilion along with picnic tables were added. In 2004 an 18-hole Disc Golf Course was introduced, making this park a 38 acre amenity.

Facilities include pavilion, restrooms, playgrounds, athletic fields, exercise stations, basketball court, jogging trail, picnic tables, horseshoe pits, 18 hole disc golf course, and fishing on the river.
