Companies Relocating Around Lake Conroe

New Exxon Campus Under Construction

In case you haven’t noticed, there’s something going on west of I 45 just south of The Woodlands. By the time it is finished, the new Exxon corporate complex and other companies will have brought tens of thousands of jobs to the area.

This is huge! Every bit of the local infrastructure will be and is being tested. Plans and actions are ongoing to build new highways, hospitals, schools, and all the service and support businesses to go with it. And, of course, homes. Lots of homes.

Home prices nearby have already jumped around 40% and there’s no end in sight of the growth.

“Any time you have a population surge like we are seeing, there are two distinct sectors that have to be addressed,” Staley said, “and those sectors are health care and education.”, (Gil Staley, CEO of The Woodlands Area Economic Development Partnership).

Staley said that health care is being addressed by the legacy hospitals that have locations in The Woodlands (CHI St. Luke’s, Memorial Hermann, Houston Methodist, MD Anderson Cancer Center), and Texas Children’s Hospital, which is under construction.

Anadarko Petroleum has already had its headquarters there for years, but is currently building a second tower on the Waterway. Baker Hughes and Afren Petroleum are also there. New arrivals include Talisman Energy, Newfield Exploration, and Repsol Services.

Liberty Pipeline, also nearby, has grown to about 135 employees, not counting contractors, which is up from about 85 people a year ago. The company is on track to grow to 160 workers next summer and their new office space will increase Liberty Pipeline square footage from 3,600 feet to 9,200 feet.

Houston’s I 10 Interchange – The Largest In The World

Here’s just one example of what the expanded economy will include:  $1.5 Billion needed to ease traffic congestion.  And I believe we will need every dime to build enough roads to handle everything through Montgomery County. Interstate 45 cannot continue to be the only pipeline of traffic going through central Montgomery County. But don’t worry, someone’s working on that too!

You also have to consider the ancillary services these energy sector companies require. Their support system is huge and they will also be bringing jobs. Then there’s all the teachers, medical professionals, highway builders and other workers to make the whole thing keep on spinning day by day.

Retail outlets, restaurants, dry goods, auto services, logistics/support, schools, hospitals, and many more will also be growing by leaps and bounds.

2014 will be a little more crowded than last year. Wait till 2015!
